Consistent school attendance is an important factor in academic success. Students with regular attendance are often more engaged in school and fair better academically. Attendance is also important for the school district. Every day that a student is absent from school, the district loses $35 per in state funding.  For those reasons, the Elk Grove Unified School District continues to promote attendance through the No Excuses – Go to School Campaign.

The campaign consists of a number of events and contests. Elementary, middle and high school students with perfect attendance for a calendar month are eligible to receive recognition through the District’s incentive program. Each month, one student with perfect attendance at each campus throughout Elk Grove Unified is randomly chosen to receive a prize.

Graduating high school seniors have a special incentive to encourage consistent school attendance. The Elk Grove Auto Mall 2007/2008 Graduating Seniors Attendance Drive takes place due to the Elk Grove Auto Mall’s generosity. The Elk Grove Auto Mall has graciously donated $20,000, for the second year in a row, towards the purchase of a vehicle from one of their dealerships for a graduating senior with at least one month of perfect attendance. Each month, graduating seniors at all EGUSD high schools have the opportunity to earn one entry for an end-of-the-year drawing for the $20,000 grand prize.
