What's Happening - Calendar of Events – November 16-27

Here’s what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District November 16-27:

November 18:  Katherine L. Albiani Middle School will host the next session of Parent University from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  This month’s topic is “PLR’s – Personal Reading Logs.”

November 18:  EGUSD’s Workability/Transitions department will host a Life After High School College and Career Planning workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

November 19:  Theater classes at T.R. Smedberg Middle School will present “The Best of Smedberg Theater” at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the studio theater at Sheldon High School.  The show will feature poetry, pantomime and dramatic scenes.  Tickets are $1.

November 19:  James Rutter Middle School will hold the next session of Parent University from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  This month’s topic is “7th/8th Grade Curriculum Standards – How They Are Taught at JRMS.”  This month, parents will focus on English and Rutter’s Literacy Plan.

November 19-21:  Theater students at Elk Grove High School will perform “Found a Peanut,” the story of eight children coming of age and learning about life and death in New York City in the 1950s.  Show times start at 7 p.m., with an additional 12 noon matinee on November 21.  The cost of tickets is $5 and children 3 and under are free.

November 19-21:  Florin High School drama students will present their rendition of “The Night of January 16th,” by Ayn Rand.  The play is a courtroom drama where a jury of the audience will determine the fate of the defendant.  Show times begin at 7:30 p.m. with an additional 2 p.m. matinee on November 21.  Tickets are $8 and will be available at the door.

November 20:  Second grade students at Florence Markofer Elementary School will present their 1st Annual Grateful for Grandparents Day from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.  The day will feature songs, poems and oral language presentations in celebration of grandparents.

November 20-21:  Drama students at Valley High School will present “A Series of Fortunate Acts,” a collection of original monologues co-directed by students.  Each student monologue will be introduced by a Valley High School staff performance.  Show times are at 7 p.m. on November 20 with an additional matinee at 2 p.m. on November 21.  The cost is $1 for students and $2 for adults.

November 25-27:  All Elk Grove Unified School District schools and offices will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
