The library has two computer labs containing 21 computers each for classroom research, and 20 computers for individual use.&nbsp; Students must have an Internet sticker to access the Internet.&nbsp; This is provided by the Advocacy teacher once the &ldquo;Acceptable Use of the Internet and Technology&rdquo; has been signed by parents and the student.&nbsp; To work at a computer work station, students must check-in at the circulation desk.&nbsp; Students will be assigned a computer station and leave their identification card at the desk.&nbsp; Students must log-on to the computer using their student identification number and password.&nbsp; Identification cards are returned when the student checks-out.&nbsp; Headphones are available for class use within the library and may be checked out by the teacher at the circulation desk. On-line data bases are available for student research use at school and at home.&nbsp; Students receive user names and passwords to log-on to these information sources.</p>

Below are basic guidelines for student use of computers. Please be advised that any misuse of computer privileges will result in disciplinary action that could include on campus suspension or home suspension.

  • The Internet:
    All students will read the terms of internet use in their student handbooks and fill out and turn in the Elk Grove Unified School District’s “Application for Educational Use of the Internet.” This library media center supports and complies with the EGUSD’s policy for “Use of Technology in Instruction.”
  • Web sites:
    During class use of the Internet, the teacher will determine if an internet site is inappropriate. The teacher&rsquo;s ruling is final. Continued access by the student to that site will be deemed defiant and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

  • Chat Rooms and Email
    Chat rooms are off limits to students. Students may not email or send personal information across the Internet. Students must check with the instructor or library media teacher for permission to email research information to their home computers.
  • Network User
    Students are not to access files or throw away files that do not belong to them. Vandalism is not permitted. “Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm or destroy data of another user or network including so-called "hacking." Vandalism shall result in the cancellation of privileges. Vandalism includes, but is not limited to, the creation or uploading of computer viruses.” (Board policy-“Use of Technology in Instruction”)
  • Saving Files
    Students may save files to the school server designated for students if these files are part of a classroom project. Students need to follow the instructor’s directions closely when saving their work, Students should title their files and should have their name and the teacher’s names saved somewhere in the file.
  • Printing
    Students will pay $0.25 for each page printed on the library media center printer. Students should not print entire web pages because this practice wastes paper and is costly to the student. Students are advised to carefully select the information they want and then cut and paste important information into a Microsoft Word document for printing. Students will be charged for any page upon which there is any printing. Copies are to be picked up and paid for at the circulation desk. The library does not have a color printer.
  • Copying
    A black and white copy machine is available for student use at the circulation desk in the library. Copies are $0.25
  • Plagiarism
    Information accessed and/or printed from the Internet and used as a part of a research project or paper must be identified as such in any project or paper. Students must credit their Internet sources in order to avoid plagiarism. Students should copy down the web address and the name of the reference source (book magazine, newspaper, etc.), title of the article, author, and date when provided. Our schools use MLA (Modern Language Association) format to cite sources. Check the library webpage for links to websites that provide information regarding how to cite sources to avoid plagiarizing the work of others.
